Mount Sathram or simply Sathram is a picturesque place in Thekkady, Idukki. Sathram in Malayalam means “a place to rest” which is closely situated to Periyar Tiger Reseve. The famous pilgrim in Kerala, Sabarimala Temple can be accessible from Mount Sathram and people use this place for resting, before starting the trekking through the dense forest.
The plan for Sathram trip starts all of a sudden in a lonely Saturday in May 2017. After a few phone calls, they were 10 people ready for the trip: which includes me, my friend Justin, and the rest-my cousins…:)
So here is our plan: Me and Justin will start from Kanirapally, Kottayam and my cousins will start from Kumily,Idukki. We will meet up in Vandiperiyar, Idukki from there we will be starting the Sathram safari. Also we will be on our bikes for this trip, as this includes off-roading.
As per the plan we met at Vandiperiyar and started the safari around 3pm. I’m not sure of the exact distance to Sathram from Vandiperiyar, but its about 12-15km. After riding a few killometers through the misty tea plantations and crossing the hair pin curves, we will be entering the jeep trails.
We have composed a video on our trail to Mount Sathram. Please check it out for more details about the trip.
